Ocular rosacea

Ocular rosacea is a condition that causes redness, burning and itching of eyes.It often develops in people who have rosacea, a chronic skin condition that affects the face.

Causes:

The exact cause of ocular rosacea is unknown.It may be due to one or more factors including,

  • Hereditary
  • Environmental factors
  • Bacterial involvement
  • Blocked glands in eyelid
  • Eyelash mites

A number of factors that aggravate this condition are as follows,

  • Alcohol
  • Spicy, hot foods
  • Sunlight,wind or extremes of temperature
  • Hot baths
  • Some medications such as cortisone

Sign and symptoms:

The sign and symptoms of ocular rosacea are as follows;

  • Dry eyes
  • Itching
  • Grittiness or feeling if foreign body
  • Red,swollen eyelids
  • Burning sensation
  • Stinging in the eyes
  • Tearing
