Deviated nasal septum: Causes

Deviated nasal septum occurs when nasal septum is displaced to one side.The different causes of deviated nasal septum are as follows;

  • Congenital: a condition present at birth.In some cases deviation is present at birth.
  • Trauma,any injury to the nose may can deviation of septum.
  • Chronic infections of nose such as sinusitis and rhinitis
  • Swelling and irritation of nasal cavities
  • Nasal polyps or tumour

Complications

If you have severely deviated nasal septum,it can lead to may complications such as;

  • Dry mouth due to chronic mouth breathing
  • Nasal obstruction
  • Nasal congestion
  • Disturbed sleep due to breathing difficulties
  • Sinusitis
