Kyphosis

Kyphosis is a condition in which curves of spine are deformed.This condition is mostly seen in children, but can affect anyone at any age.

Kyphosis occurs when the curve of thoracic spin is greater than normal (greater than 45)

The severity of Kyphosis varies greatly.

Types

The three main types of kyphosis are as follows;

  • Congenital kyphosis
  • Postural kyphosis
  • Scheuermann’s kyphosis

Postural kyphosis

It is the most common type of kyphosis and most commonly seen in the adolescents.t is characterised as poor posture or slouching and is not associated with severe structural spine abnormalities.

Scheuermann’s kyphosis

It is caused by structural abnormality in spine.

Congenital kyphosis

It occurs when spinal cord fails to develop naturally and is present in babies at birth.This form of kyphosis worsens with age.
