Facial nerve paralysis (Bell’s palsy)

Facial nerve damage causes weakness of facial muscles.This makes half of face appear to droop,smile is one-sided, eyes resist closing.

Facial nerve is the 7th cranial nerve; major nerve supply to face.

Symptoms

The symptoms of bell’s palsy are as follows;

  • Facial weakness
  • Facial paralysis
  • Facial droop and difficulty making facial expressions
  • Drooling
  • Headache
  • Pain around jaw
  • Increase sensitivity to sound on affected side
  • Changes in saliva production
  • Decrease in ability to taste
