It is unilateral or bilateral decrease in the best corrected visual acuity for which there is no identifiable cause in the eye or the visual pathway.

Clinical features
- Visual acuity is reduced
- Pinhole test shows no improvement in vision
- Crowding phenomenon is present

- Removal of obstruction to the vision
- Correction of refractive error
- Improvement of vision in amblyoic eye
