Breast cancer; sign and symptoms

Breast lump or mass is one of the indications of breast cancer in men or women.Breast cancer can cause several additional changes on skin of breast or around it.

In this article, we’ll discuss some of the potential sign and symptoms of breast cancer that may occur without noticeable lump in breast.

Changes to skin texture:

Breast cancer can cause changes and inflammation in skin cells that can cause changes in skin texture.Examples of these changes include;

  • Scaly skin around nipple or areola ,as though the skin is sun burned or dried.
  • Skin thickening in any part of the breast
  • These changes may also cause itching

Nipple Discharge:

Discharge from nipple can be watery or thick and can range in colour from clear to milky to orange or red.

Dimpling:

Skin dimpling is a common sign of breast cancer which is of inflammatory type.Doctors call this “peau d’ orange” because the dimpled skin resemble the surface of an orange.

Breast or nipple pain:

Breast cancer can cause changes in skin that can lead to pain,tenderness and discomfort in breast.Some women describe this pain as burning sensation.

Nipple retraction:

Breast cancer causes changes in cells behind nipple,which can cause inversion of nipple or it may look different in terms of its size.
