Uveitis is described as the inflammation of the uveal tract.
What is uveal tract?
Uveal tract is a vascular layer of an eyeball which is divided into three parta:choroid, ciliary body and iris.it is pigmented and highly vascular layer.
Classification:
It us classified in various ways:
Anatomical classification:
- Anterior uveitis include:iritis,iridocyclitis
- Intermediate uveitis:cyclitis
- Posterior uveitis:choroiditis
- Pan uveitis:inflammation of all the parts of uveal tract
Clinical classification:
Depends upon the mode of onset and symptoms.
- Acute uveitis
- Chronic uveitis
Histological classification:
- Granulomatous uveitis: contains lymphocytes, epithelioid and giant cells
- Non granylomatous uveitis: contains many polymorpholeukocytes
Causes:
Uveitis can be Infective caused by bacteria, virus,fungi,protozoans and worms.it can also be due to non-infevtive causes such as autoimmune reactions etc.
Treatment:
The aim of the treatment is to ;
- Relieve the patient
- Treat underlying cause
- Symptomatic treatment
