The collection of blood under the perichondrium or periosteum of nasal septum is termed as septal haematoma.
Causes:
It often results from ;
- Nasal trauma
- Septal surgery
- Bleeding Disorders
Clinical Features:
- Bilateral nasal obstruction
- Frontal headache
- Pressure over the nasal bridge
- Examination reveals smooth rounded swelling of the septum in both the nasal fossae
Treatment:
Small haematomas can be aspirated withb a wide bore sterile meddle.Large haematomas are incised and drained by a small anteroposterior incision parallel to the nasal floor.Systemic antibiotic should be taken.
