Ocular rosacea is a condition that causes redness, burning and itching of eyes.It often develops in people who have rosacea, a chronic skin condition that affects the face.
Causes:
The exact cause of ocular rosacea is unknown.It may be due to one or more factors including,
- Hereditary
- Environmental factors
- Bacterial involvement
- Blocked glands in eyelid
- Eyelash mites
A number of factors that aggravate this condition are as follows,
- Alcohol
- Spicy, hot foods
- Sunlight,wind or extremes of temperature
- Hot baths
- Some medications such as cortisone
Sign and symptoms:
The sign and symptoms of ocular rosacea are as follows;
- Dry eyes
- Itching
- Grittiness or feeling if foreign body
- Red,swollen eyelids
- Burning sensation
- Stinging in the eyes
- Tearing
