Amblyopia

It is unilateral or bilateral decrease in the best corrected visual acuity for which there is no identifiable cause in the eye or the visual pathway.

Types

  • Strabismic amblyopia
  • Stimulation deprivation amblyopia
  • Anisometropic amblyopia
  • Isoametropic amblyopia
  • Astigmatism amblyopia

Clinical features

  1. Visual acuity is reduced
  2. Pinhole test shows no improvement in vision
  3. Crowding phenomenon is present

Treatment

  • Removal of obstruction to the vision
  • Correction of refractive error
  • Improvement of vision in amblyoic eye
