Atelactasis

Atelactasis is collapse or closure of lungs as a result of reduced or no air in lungs.The term comes from Greek and means”incomplete expansion.”

The condition affects smallest air carrying unit of lungs known as alveoli.Alveoli have very important function. At the level of alveoli gas exchange takes place and it is surrounded by fine network of tiny blood vessels.

Types of atelectasis

The types of atelactasis are as follows;

  • primary atelectasis or congenital atelectasis occur in fetals or infants
  • Secondary atelectasis is due to result of some other disease
