Ectopis lentis is the displacement or malposition of lens from its normal position.The displacement of lens may be subluxation or complete luxation may also occur rendering the pupil aphakic.
Etiology:
Hereditary causes:
- Familial ectopia lentis
- Ectopia lentis et pupillae
- Marfan syndrome;axial myopia,glaucoma, risk of retinal detachment
- Weill-Marchesani syndrome
- Homocystinuria
- Sulphite oxidase deficiency
- HyperLysinemia
Acquired causes:
- Trauma
- High myopia
- Hypermature cataract
- Pseudoexfoliation
- Buphthalmos
- Ciliary body tumour
Treatment:
- Correction of refractive errors by spectacles
- Surgical removal of lens
