Gas gangrene ,also known as myonecrosis or necrotizing fascitis,is mostly caused by Clostridium perfringens.
Clinical findings:
The clinical findings are as follows,
- Pain
- Edema
- Cellulitis
- Necrosis
- Creptius is palpated in affected tissue
- Hemolysis and jaundice are common
- Shock and death can occur
Treatment:
Treatment mostly includes excision and antibiotic is given. Penicillin G is the antibiotic of choice.
